La credibilità di Google News messa alla prova da un adolescente

Tom Vandetta è un ragazzo di 16 anni che ha messo in evidenzia la “facilità” con cui delle false notizie possono apparire su Google News.

Dopo aver letto alcuni articoli che illustravano come ingannare il sistema che gestisce Google News, semplicemente scrivendo dei falsi comunicati stampa, Tom Vandetta ha deciso di provare in prima persona.

Ha scritto così un comunicato stampa nel quale veniva dichiarato che uno studente 15enne del New Jersey era diventato il più giovane dipendente di Google.

La notizia è stata poi inserita su I-Newswire a nome di un portavoce di Google chiamata Sonya Johnson (un nome di fantasia).

Il testo era il seguente:

“(I-Newswire) - 15 year old student, Tom Vendetta has been hired by search engine giant Google Inc. The student will receive a lowered salary, which will be placed into a bank account for future education, said Google CEO Larry Page. When asked what role Vendetta will play at the Tech Giant’s offices, Page said he wouldnt have a role at the Main Offices. Instead he would work from his home in the New Jersey suburbs. Vendetta will be incharge of working with recent security flaw’s in Google’s beta e-mail service, “Gmail”. Google said they first found out about him when they discovered the student’s blog, at http://tomvendetta.be. The media giant said they looked forward to working with Vendetta’s expertise in JavaScript and AJAX.”

La notizia è poi apparsa su Digg ed in seguito su Google News. Inutile dire che la popolarità del ragazzo è aumentata improvvisamente e dopo poche ore nella sua casella Gmail erano arrivati circa 400 messaggi.

La faccenda, a parte gli scherzi, ha sicuramente messo in allarme parecchie persone in quanto ha evidenziato la mancanza di controlli sulla veridicità dei comunicati stampa che vengono pubblicati.
